so, here is a photo of justin and i at water aerobics this morning. for some reason, the chlorine really sparks those hair folicles on justin's back, causing excessive growth.now come on readers, you really didn't think this was justin, did you?? he didn't even go with me this morning! i dragged my sorry ass out of bed, hopped into a freezing cold pool and began hopping around. it was quite an exerience. somewhere around the 50th minute of this nonsense, i was reminded of my days on the swim team. and, when i say days, i literally mean days.
i was about 8 years old and the smallest one on the team. it was our first swim meet and i was a nervous pervus. i didn't like to dive in off of the block, so i jumped in at the sound of the horn. i didn't like to turn under water, so i popped up out of the water (not quite to the wall, because i was afraid to hit my head), walked the last foot or two, turned around and "took off." as i was swimming the last lap, i could hear the crowd going wild...cheering, clapping, some even screaming. "i must be in first place..." i thought to myself. i made it to the wall and climbed out of the pool, expecting to see my opponents still in the water. however, i realized that i was the last one to finish. they weren't cheering because i was the ultimate winner...they were cheering because i had the gusto to finish the race, even though i was so far behind. ice skating, anyone?
i'm going to set my alarm for next week's class.
I remember that day as if it was yesterday...you were so determined...as you still are today....xoxo Mom
